Our team not only know how to build websites but they build them with search engines in mind. By using the latest and most recent search engine optimisation techniques we help make every one of our clients websites get to the top.
Research
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is one of those “buzz” words that has been around for the last couple of years. It is becoming far more important for ALL website owners to understand what search engine optimisation is, and how it will affect their own website.
Great search engine optimisation begins with research. Are the search phrases YOU want to be found for actually the search phrases people are LOOKING for? How many people are actually searching for this phrase per month? 100? 1000? 10,000? How competitive is this search phrase?
Without this initial research we find many people chase search phrases that are either too competitive (which means it will take a very long time to get listed on the first page of Google for this phrase), or get listings on the first page of Google for search phrases that are never going to bring them in extra business or customers. Without getting the research done properly in the first place, often means websites are built for the client, but not the customer (and certainly not the search engines).
Implementation & Development
Once you have your research in place, you need to implement the changes to your site (if it is an existing website) or build your site from the outset with the key elements of SEO in place.
This is why it is so important to choose a developer who understands Search Engine Optimisation. There is a major difference between knowing SEO and understanding SEO. There are many key elements that can affect the SEO of a website, including page title, URL, domain name, links, social media, bookmarking, keywords in your headline text, keywords in your body text, blog writing, to name but a few.
With the launch of the new Google algorithm (Google Caffeine), the speed of your website will be very important. Slow loading sites may find their search engine position under threat as a result of the new Google changes; therefore it will be critical that your server speed is as fast as your competitor’s websites. This is something we have always looked in to as part of our audit on websites looking for high Google rankings.
Sometimes we come across websites which are easier to start afresh (rather than trying to rewrite the code and structure of the website). Sites coded in .asp can be very difficult for the Google spider to navigate. Flash sites also fall into this category. Flash sites can look fantastic, but will always struggle to get high search engine rankings without balancing the images with strong HTML content. A great example of a site that uses a great balance of flash and html coding is the Eden Project www.edenproject.com.
Google AdWords
Google AdWords, Sponsored Links, Pay per Click – all of these are descriptions of the advertising available across the main search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo. Google has by far the largest market share of all search engines, and a Google AdWords campaign will give your website coverage of approximately 75% of the online search market.
Google AdWords is an advertising medium that allows you to get your sales message to the people who are actually searching for your service or product AT THE EXACT MOMENT IN TIME. If you were to use this example with other more traditional forms of advertising (e.g. brochures), it would be the same as walking around your home town or city, with people physically COMING UP TO YOU and asking for a brochure on a particular product. For those of you who have had brochures, flyers, leaflets and other paraphernalia printed, you will know this is NEVER the case!
Google have made the process of setting up an AdWords campaign reasonably easy. What tends to happen because of this, is that people give it a go, say it doesn’t work (or it costs too much money), without ever understanding WHY. They never consider the different types of keyword matching you can use, or the number of negative keywords they should have at campaign level. They make the mistake of sending people to their homepage, or a page that is not relevant to the keyword they are bidding on. They bid on keywords or phrases that are people at the research end of a buying decision, as opposed to the buying end of a buying decision! Or they bid on keywords and phrases that simply cost too much money per click for their budget. This is why we would always recommend getting a Google AdWords professional to either a. set up & manage your Google AdWords campaign or b. get trained on Google AdWords to have the ability to do it properly and avoid all the mistakes.
